My newest AraAppaloosa Filly
On the morning of June 24, 2008 I went outside to feed my mares. When I came to feed Fancy, she did not come up to the feeding.
Upon further investigation, I found that she had foaled 11 days early. The baby seemed to be doing fine. I took mother and
her new filly to the barn.
Upon examining the baby to make sure all was well, I was surprised to find that I had
a Dun colored filly. She has many of the characteristics of a true dun - dorsal stripe, shoulder patch, zebra stripes on legs,
and darker colored ears with tan inside, Now, I scratched my head. Of all the colors I anticipated getting from this breeding,
dun was one color that never entered into the possibilities. Fancy is a pure-bred Arabian with black-bay coloring. The sire,
AR Ghostwind Feather, is a black-leopard Appaloosa. How in the world did I get a dun out of this combination? I
contacted the sire's owner to see if he could shed any light - perhaps Ghost has a dun gene. The owner indicated he didn't
think so.
Because I am an analytical, I must find the answer. Don't get me wrong, I'm not upset about the
foals color, acutally I'm thrilled, but being a breeder I need to know why. Stay tunned as I will post what I find out
about how this foals coloration came about..

A New AraAppaloosa Filly
On June 22, 2008 in the early morning hours FAA Kendra Knight gave birth to a cute little AraAppaloosa filly. This filly is
refined, with a beautiful dished Arabian head. She looks very Arabian in type. Her sire, A Dandy Gent, is our own Appaloosa
stallion. This is a good looking filly and we feel she will have good sport horse potential. She will be for sale to the right
home. She will be registered as a Half-Arab and also with the AraAppaloosa & Foundation Breeder's Int'l Registry.

The Merit of the Arabian / Appaloosa cross.
I have found that combining the Appaloosa breed with the Arabian breed opens up a whole new realm of possibilities in
the Sport Horse world. Combining the blood of the foundation-bred Appaloosa with its athletic abilities and stamina with the
blood of the Arabian, which is a supurb athlete known for its endurance abilities should produce a beautiful, intelligent,
refined, colorful athlete with exceptional long-distance talent. When it comes to endurance, there are two well-known breeds
that have the genetic make-up to excel at this sport - the Arabian and the foundation-bred Appaloosa which was created by
the Nez Perce Indians. Both are hardy breeds which have the fortitude, apptitude and heart to win.
